The Chicago Waste to Profit Network, on Thursday, November 29, 2007, was awarded Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s GreenWorks Award for Market Transformation in Green Practices.
Mayor Daley's GreenWorks Awards promote a green city by recognizing businesses, non-profits, schools and government agencies whose buildings, practices, and products or services are environmentally responsible. The GreenWorks Awards are presented bi-annually in three categories: Green Buildings, Green Practices, and Green Products. Additional consideration was given to projects with an educational or outreach component.
The Network was recognized for its contribution to transforming Chicago Industry through green practices, green education, and proving that the Waste to Profit Network is good for Chicago business, the environment and the community
Our warmest kudos to all involved in this honor, as well as for the amazing success achieved this year: 22,118 Tons of landfill bound waste diverted, 4.5 million dollars in cost savings and new revenue creation, and almost 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions reduced in Chicagoland, surpassing project goals.
The Chicago Waste to Profit Network finds new ways of transforming waste into more profitable and innovative uses. Member companies in the network are helping to improve not only their business operations, but the quality of life in the Chicago area. The City of Chicago is bringing this program to Chicago area businesses through a partnership with the United States Business Council for Sustainable Development (USBCSD) and the Chicago Manufacturing Center (CMC). The Chicago network also has a partnership with the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) in the United Kingdom, http://www.wastetoprofit.org/home.htm.
