Platform objectives are to identify and support projects that encourage transition towards a sustainable energy economy, address climate change and reduce energy and carbon intensity throughout lifecycles while creating economic value.
– Companies representing the biofuels supply chain are working with technical experts from the Pacific NW National Lab to demonstrate the economic and technical feasibility of converting woody waste streams to fuel oils that could be introduced into existing refineries along with crude oil. A pilot plant is contemplated along with plans to test product in a nearby refinery.
– The US Army is working with the US BCSD to establish alternative fueling stations that would provide fuels for use in government (non-tactical) vehicles as well as for interested private citizens. Initial efforts are focused at Fort Lewis, Washington.
